100-level ASTR courses for Engineering majors - IMPORTANT

•             ASTR 100 will not be allowed for free elective credit. (NO CHANGE)

•             Up to four hours of other 100-level ASTR courses (ASTR 113, 121, 122, 131, 132, 150) be allowed for free elective credit.

It was decided to allow four hours instead of one course to permit engineers to take one 3-hour lecture course (ASTR 113, 121, 122, 150) plus one 1-hour lab course (ASTR 131/132). 

• Courses not counting towards graduation hours: Credit cannot be used toward the Engineering degree for any math course below MATH 220 (MATH 012, 014, 016, 017, STAT 100, etc.) or CHEM 101, PHYS 101, PHYS 102, ASTR 100, or basic military science.

• 100-Level ASTR courses: Maximum of 4 hours from the following courses ASTR 113, 121, 122, 131, 132, 150 can be used for free elective credit.

NSF/REU: Clarkson University - Summer 12

Clarkson University is offering a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program during the summer of 2012, sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  This interdisciplinary program in Environmental Sciences and Engineering has a theme of „Advancing Sustainable Systems and Environmental Technologies to Serve Humanity (ASSETs to Serve Humanity)‰.  Students of
diverse backgrounds will come together for a 10-week intensive summer research experience, professional development, and graduate student preparation.  The program incorporates professional development and multidisciplinary research activities in three focus areas: (1) sustainable energy and infrastructure for the built environment, (2) sensing, identifying, and mitigating emerging pollutants and other risks, and (3) transformation of social policy: infrastructure, energy, and environment. Students will be provided with a generous stipend; free housing; a travel allowance; field trips focused on the REU theme; workshops related to sustainable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and sensors; GRE preparation classes; and other professional development opportunities.  More information and an on-line application are available at www.clarkson.edu/reu.  Application Deadline, February 1, 2012.
